Key leaders at the top of Amazon, Apple, Facebook, and Google suffered a brutal political blow this week. Democrats and Republicans from the U.S. Judiciary House Committee joined forces against media executives. They accused them of using their market power to destroy competitors and misuse customer data to accumulate vast profits.
The rare interrogation lasted almost six hours. The legislators of the Supreme Cartel Subcommittee of the House of Representatives came well prepared. Millions of documents, hundreds of hours of research, and private instructions from the elite Silicon Valley bosses were on the tables of state dignitaries as evidence.
They wanted to show that some of those present – working in the technology sector – had become too big and powerful. “Turning into rivals with their consumers, they are even endangering democracy,” said the chairman of the Democratic Subcommittee David Cicilline.
